Interests |
Over the years, you will have developed unique interests which you may not always be aware of. When these are identified and recognized, you can be helped to combine these with your abilities to achieve a fuller and more integrated use of both. Personal Style |
Another area that is important to career happiness and job satisfaction is your personality and personal style. Everyone develops unique speech patterns, body language, social devices and personality traits that combine to make up who you are. Personality and a person's personal style are important to identify. It makes it far easier to understand things about yourself such as how you relate to others and others to you, how you learn best, how you prefer to make decisions, how you are energised, how you acquire information and the sort of lifestyle and environment you prefer to work in. To find out more about these areas, we use a combination of the Highlands Ability Battery, Myers Briggs Personality Indicator, informal questionnaires and discussion. |

Family |
Your background and family have a monumental affect on shaping your life and work attitude. We encourage you to examine and to understand how your family's history and intra-family relationships have had an influence on your career choices to date, and on the relationship you have with work. Your family's influence on your career choices can be both positive and negative, and in gaining a better understanding of these influences you can move towards the working life YOU want whilst also taking advantage of the invaluable lessons your family has taught you and continues to teach you. |
|
Values |
An individual’s values define their reactions to people and events inside the work place as much as out of it. When a sense of values is combined with knowledge of the other factors already mentioned, you will be helped to bring plans and choices into sharper focus. We use questionnaires to find out more about your work values. | |
Goals |
Every person has goals which control and drive their actions and the activities they take part in - both every day and over the foreseeable future. We use the information we have learned about you and your job profile throughout your counselling sessions to identify goals and action plans, which are vital for future career success. Goals can sometimes seem unobtainable in the short term and as such we formulate a realistic set of targets for you to aim for on your road to success. |
These are some of the possible outcomes from going through the career counselling process:
- You may find that you are in fact in the right job after all and through the sessions have discovered what you need to do to make work more enjoyable and fulfilling.
- Perhaps you find that you need to change jobs or develop a clear idea as to which career you should follow. If this is the case, you may need some assistance with looking for a suitable job or preparing your CV or for interviews.
STAGE TWO - Job search, CV preparation and interview training ...
Once you have found out the type of job that is suitable for you, it is important to spend time finding out more about the ins and outs of each job. This enables you to find out exactly what is required of you and in doing so, confidently approach the recruitment process.
You may also need assistance with updating or writing your CV and with interview training, so you have the best chance of getting the job you want. There is nothing our careers consultants don't know about CV presentation or about how to impress at an interview.
