Top 10 New Year’s Resolutions

Traditionally, these have been the top 10 resolutions:

  1. Eat healthier

  2. Exercise more

  3. Save money

  4. Learn something new

  5. Quit smoking

  6. Read more

  7. Change jobs or Change careers

  8. Drink less

  9. Spend more time with family and friends

  10. Get organised

Whether they will be the same this year, or different remains to be seen. Certainly, covid has made us think differently about so many things.

What’s on your New Year’s Resolution List?

2020 has been some year, hasn't it? 2020 was not exactly what we expected, but what did you learn from your year?

Perhaps you have come to appreciate small things you didn't even notice before. Or you learnt new skills if you had to cover other's work who were furloughed. Maybe you realised the job you are doing is not really for you as it has no meaning or purpose. Or perhaps you want to change to a role where you feel you are using your strengths and abilities?

Or, you have been so busy that you have not had a chance to reflect and contemplate what 2020 has meant to you and your career?

If this is you, I have created a Career and Personal Development Plan Workbook, to help you to reflect on 2020 and plan how you want to shape your future 2021.

Is a career change or job change one of your New Years Resolutions?

So you have worked out that you want to change careers but don’t know how to find a new career, think of career ideas or even know where to start with how to change career? You have come to the right place because I have helped hundreds of people over the last several years with their job change.

How to change careers

To understand the career path that is suitable for you, you first need to understand yourself and what you are looking for in your work life. Then you need to discover how you are going to get there and what steps you need to take to achieve this.

Everyone is unique and needs different things from their career. This could be a need to use your strengths and abilities, a need to be interested in what you do or feel passionate about at work. You may need work that suits your personality preferences or values. So, the best place to start, when thinking about a career change, is to think about you first. What do you really need to get form work? What really matters to you?

In my career change programme, we start with understanding what’s missing in your current career and what has bought you to the place you are at. We discuss your issues and concerns and what you want to achieve from the programme. We then go onto getting a good understanding of your abilities, skills, interests, personal style and values.

We use a mix of psychometric assessment, questionnaires and coaching to find amazing insights as to what comes easily and naturally to you at work, what you naturally excel at and how this relates different types of work, how you best communicate, problem-solve and make decisions and your best working environment according to your abilities. We find your interests, passions and skills, your personality type and your values. From undertaking this work, you will have a good understanding of who you are and what is important to you, as well as career ideas to explore.

Of course, you need to find out where your talents can be used, so we research the top career ideas and form an action plan to get you to where you want to be.

Are you interested in taking your New Years’s Resolution forward so this time next year you will have made the changes. Rather than thinking, that’s another year wasted in a job I hate!
